2nd Annual Stories of SW1 Writing Competition seeking submissions (£3 entry fee, £50 prize)

SouthWestFest is delighted to announce the opening of the 2nd Annual Stories of SW1 Writing Competition! Their award winning panel of judges this year is Hannah Vincent, Martin Daws and the Royal Court Theatre.

What to submit:  Writing on the theme of South Westminster. You don’t have to live here to enter, but they’re looking for representations and interpretations of the SW1 postcode past, present, future or alternate. “Engage us, entertain us, maybe even tell us something we don’t know about the area!”

Submissions can be made in the following categories:

  • Flash fiction – Maximum 500 words
  • Poetry – Maximum 20 lines
  • Scripts – 10 minute play scripts

What you get:  The prize: £50, the opportunity to have your piece recorded for radio, publication on the SouthWestFest website and inclusion in the curated art exhibition, Stories of SW1, at the Abbey Centre, London.

All short listed pieces will be invited to exhibit at the curated art exhibition, Stories of SW1, at the Abbey Centre, London. If the submissions are of a high enough quality and quantity, we may be able to offer more prizes.

The winner will be announced at the Stories of SW1 art exhibition opening on Thursday 25th June 2016. The decision of the judges is final. Correspondence regarding the decision will not be entered into.

Entry fee: SouthWestFest is a charity supporting the local community so there is an entrance fee to help fund the prize.

Entry fees are as follows:

  • 1 piece of work: £3
  • 2 pieces of work: £5
  • Each additional piece of work: £2

How to apply:  Please email your work and proof of payment in the body of an email (attachments will not be opened) to: info@southwestfest.org.uk with ‘Writing submission – (poetry/prose/script)’ in the subject line. If formatting is essential to your piece, please also attach a PDF version.

Please pay through our Paypal account and provide the receipt number in your covering email.

If you are unable to sumbit your work via an email or paypal please contact us by phone on 07541 524 794 and they will arrange for you to drop off your work or mail it in.

Deadline: Tuesday 16 June 2015 at midnight GMT
