Opportunities – Pick of the Week:The Nick Darke Writer’s Award 2020 is now open for entries

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: The Nick Darke Writer’s Award 2020 is now open for entries

Description: Established in 2006 to celebrate the best writing for stage, screen and radio, the Nick Darke Writers’ Award is funded by Falmouth University through the Academy of Music and Theatre Arts (AMATA) and the School of Communication. The Award commemorates the playwright Nick Darke and was conceived by his wife, the artist and filmmaker Jane Darke, following his death with the support of his family. Nick Darke wrote in many forms but earned his living in the world of theatre, screen and radio. Open to all UK and European writers aged 16 or over, the £6,000 Award provides the time to write that financial support facilitates. The 2020 category is stage play.

What’s so great about it? The Nick Darke Award is a long established playwriting prize which offers an award of £6000 to support a writer in their work. You’ve got until 4th May to send your full length play so if you’re currently working on something, we’d say it’s worth putting this deadline in your diary.
