Yorkshire-based Playwright / Poet / Spoken Word Artist, Cast

Paid Opportunity for Yorkshire-based Playwright / Poet / Spoken Word Artist

FEE                 £3,100 in instalments

DEADLINE      9:00am on Wednesday 10 March 2021

Between June and August 2021, Cast and Public Acts will tour an interactive pop-up theatre adventure from a mobile van. The Fabulous, Radically Inclusive Engine of Doncastrian Adventures (a.k.a. Frieda) will visit neighbourhoods and community events around Doncaster, inviting residents to gather, play, learn, contribute and enjoy. A story will be built along the way. An epic story of local legends that features the characters we meet and the places we visit. The final stop of the journey will be an outdoor cabaret performance on Sir Nigel Gresley Square on August Bank Holiday weekend 2021, in which the story will be told by a company of citizen performers from Doncaster as part of a celebratory evening of performances by local artists.

The project is still an evolving idea and we imagine that the writer will shape both form and content.

We are looking for a writer to join the team and work with the director as a lead creative on the project. You might be a playwright with experience of working on outdoor or site-responsive performances. You might be a spoken word artist who enjoys bringing together the poetic and the everyday. You might come from an improvisation or devising background and be excited by this opportunity to build a narrative using contributions from participants and audiences.

Given the local, pop-up nature of the project we are particularly interested in hearing from people based in South Yorkshire although we welcome applications from those living in any part of Yorkshire.
