RSC seeking Deputy Literary Manager (deadline this Friday 22nd!)

Maternity cover for at least nine months from mid-March 2016

Based central London with regular travel to Stratford-upon-Avon

“Shakespeare was once a new writer who experimented with both form and content to produce drama which was shocking, thrilling and bold. It’s an adventurous spirit that has always inspired us to commission and develop new plays to produce on all our stages, alongside Shakespeare’s plays.

The creative engine that drives this work is our literary department based here in Covent Garden – and this exciting role is right at the heart of it. As well as project managing the research and development of our main stage commissions, you’ll liaise closely with artists, oversee the writing process and co-ordinate readings and workshops. You will also negotiate and draw up contracts”.

Although working mainly on the development of new plays, there will be the opportunity to develop new adaptations, musicals and translations too.

With a proven background of project managing script development within a theatre, your experience should include working closely with senior writers and theatre makers, negotiating contracts and managing talent. The ability to lead a small administrative team and co-ordinate budgets is also important, along with a genuine passion for creating ground-breaking new drama.

Closing date for completed applications is Friday 22nd January 2016.
