Applications are now open for Yellow Earth Theatre’s Professional Writers Programme (Paid)

What is it?

It is the second iteration of Yellow Earth Theatre’s Professional Writers Programme. An intensive two-year programme for writers of East Asian and Southeast Asian descent beginning in May 2020. The programme will support four early career playwrights in writing a full-length play by the end of the two years.

How does it work?

Writers will be selected in two phases. For phase 1, up to 12 writers will be invited to participate in weekly group meetings to develop a treatment for a new play. These meetings will be held on Saturday afternoons at Soho Theatre, London in May 2020.  From these writers, four will be selected to continue on to Phase 2. Each writer in phase 2 will receive:

  • A seed commission of £2,000 per writer to include all travel and expenses within London. Travel will be covered for anyone living outside of London.
  • Eight one-to-one dramaturgy meetings
  • Masterclasses by top industry professionals
  • Development workshops with actors and directors
  • Public Readings
  • Industry connections

All writers from Phase 1, whether or not they have received the seed commission, will be invited to attend all the masterclasses.

How to apply?

You will need to submit a proposal or pitch for a new play you would like to write. This could include a description of what the idea is, why you want to explore it and a short synopsis. This should not exceed two A4 pages in length. You will also need to submit one previous full length piece of work in your chosen medium: theatre, radio or screen.

Send these along with an application and a monitoring form to: writers@yellowearth.org.uk
