IdeasTap running a session on ‘the three act structure’

This beginner session is aimed at writers of screen and stage. It will demonstrate Syd Field’s three act structure paradigm, using clips and excerpts from a range of films across several key genres, with a focus on the demands of the British Film Industry. Shaun of the Dead and Jaws will be two of the studies. Learning points will include the key differences between story and plot, and how to write for specific genre. Jon will screen short clips from films, explaining the mechanics of how this structure works. You will be encouraged to consider ways in which the three act structure is successfully deviated from, and how this translates to the audience experience.

The session will also observe popular trends and recent investments on the part of financiers and producers.

There will be the chance for questions and discussion.
