Norwich Theatre Royal are running a playwriting course over ten weekly two hour sessions, in which participants will learn about the craft of scriptwriting through classes and workshopping each other’s writing. Participants will learn how to generate stories, create characters, write dialogue and structure scripts. By the end of the course, participants will have developed knowledge of dramaturgy and have built up a portfolio of work and where appropriate will have had the opportunity to hear their own work, in a shared reading by our own acting students.
The course will be led by Norfolk based playwright James McDermott. James graduated from UEA with an MA (Distinction) in Scriptwriting and trained on The Royal Court Writers Group 2017. James’s plays include Fast Food starring Jude Law (Lyric Hammersmith), Street Life (NTR Stage Two) and Rubber Ring (UK Tour) which has been published by Samuel French. James is currently writing new plays for Hampstead Theatre, HighTide and Norwich Arts Centre.
