Opportunities: Our Pick of the Week – IdeasTap/Invertigo seeking playwrights for rehearsed reading

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: IdeasTap/ Invertigo seeking playwrights for rehearsed reading

Description: One playwright will get the chance to develop a play  on the theme of “family” over a four month period (May – September 2015) with dramaturgical support from the artistic directors of Invertigo, with a rehearsed reading at The Pleasance and a £350 fee.

So, what’s so great about it? Firstly, with IdeasTap due to close on 2nd June, this is one of the last creative competitions they’ll be running, so if you’ve already got a profile with them, this might be your last chance to make the most of it. To apply, you only need to fill out an application form (via IdeasTap) which includes a 150 word outline of your idea, 100 words on what ‘family’ means to you and your CV – so there’s not much work to be done in time for the deadline on 22nd May. The best bit though, is that the prize is pretty impressive: the winner gets £350, a rehearsed reading of their play at a respected venue (The Pleasance) plus dramaturgical support in developing the play from professional theatre company Invertigo.
