Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Behind Closed Doors: Call Out For Writers (paid)
Description: Lemon House Theatre is hosting Behind Closed Doors, an online event of rehearsed readings, later this autumn as part of Theatre Deli’s LiveFromDeli programme. This night will showcase work by writers of underrepresented genders, and we’re looking for short plays that explore themes of sex, bodies and intimacy. Underrepresented genders include cis women, trans women, trans men, non-binary people, and those who are otherwise marginalised.
Why is it so great? In this new opportunity from Lemon House they are looking for pieces that ask how much important conversations around sex have opened up – are we actually more liberated? Or just finding new ways to take issues with our bodies? And how has the pandemic changed the way we date? Selected writers will see their work staged through script-in-hand performances, with support of a dramaturg, and take part in the creative process. The pieces will be filmed as rehearsed readings at Theatre Deli before being shared online to a digital audience. There will be a streamed launch night followed by a viewing period of three weeks where audiences will be able to watch the pieces. Selected writers will also receive a £200 fee. You have until 30th September to apply!
