Chosen Words is a project designed to support and develop new theatre writing in the North West. Workshops will take place in Preston but you don’t have to be based there to apply. 6 writers will be chosen to develop a first draft working towards a production ready script. With mentoring from award winning writer Rob Johnston and North West theatre director, Charlie Mortimer, the writers will develop their work in a supportive and professional process.
Project details: the writers’ and their first drafts will be led through a series of 3 main sessions:
Jun 2014 Each writer will have their script read by professional performers and a director, after which the writer observes the investigation of the script by the team.
Aug 2014 After a further consultation with the writing mentor and director a bespoke workshop of the writers’ draft will be created using the skills of professional performers to assist.
Sep 2014 All writers involved will be invited to have a section of their script performed in a rehearsed reading at The Preston Tringe and to attend a panel discussion by industry professionals regarding current Best Practices of Working with New Writing at The Octagon, Bolton. Chaired by Elizabeth Newman (Head of New Writing)
Jan 2015 All writers will have access to a final and third session to read have their re-drafted scripts and receive some final feedback on it at this point in the scripts’ existence.
Most of the sessions are negotiable to support the natural creative process of the writer and their requirements but the final deadline for all sessions to be completed is 31st Jan 2015.
