Young Pleasance London: Playwriting Competition – open for monologue submissions (16-25)

The Young Pleasance London are looking for inspiring monologues from aspiring playwrights to enter their new playwriting competition.

From the submissions, they will select a shortlist of approximately 20 monologues that will be performed by the Young Pleasance London company at the Pleasance Theatre, Islington, in December 2018 as their inaugural production. After this performance, 1 monologue will then be selected as the foundation of a new play to be devised, developed and performed by the same company in 2019.

The writer of this winning play will be invited to join the company as resident playwright – from research and development workshops, through to rehearsals, and finally to the production itself in spring 2019.

“There is no theme for these monologues, we want you to have complete freedom in how and what you write. We’re interested in hearing new voices telling us new stories about what matters to you, no matter what your background, no matter where you’re from – we are looking for writers the length and the breadth of the UK. There are only a few parameters that need to be considered.”

Your monologue must be:

  • About something you’re passionate about
  • 2 – 3 minutes in length
  • Written for a character aged 16 – 25
  • Based in the present i.e. today, 2018
  • Set where you live i.e. London, Edinburgh etc.
  • Your own original work

To apply, you must be aged 16 – 25.

Deadline: 31 July 2018 at midday
