Stockport Garrick Theatre New Writing Festival seeking 45-90 min plays

Stockport Garrick Theatre is looking for 3 playwrights to help develop a 45-90 minute play that will get a rehearsed reading at their New Writing Festival.

What you get: Initially, development opportunities will be on a peer basis and will be lead by what the playwright needs. There’s the potential for professional mentoring and feedback but they are unable to guarantee this at this point. What they can provide is free space to workshop and rehearse, people with a passion for new writing and an excellent set of actors ready to help you develop your play (It’s worth noting that actors from outside their membership can be involved too.)

We’re unable to guarantee feedback to all plays but we will read every play. Any feedback given will be on a peer to peer basis, which we’ll aim to share in the way that is best for you. The Garrick and the festival is ran entirely by volunteers and this is an unpaid opportunity.

What to submit: Plays do not need to be finished right now but they should still show your capabilities as a playwright. If the play is unfinished please make it clear within the script, in a way that makes sense to you, how you plan to finish your play so they can gain an understanding of the story you’re trying to tell. They are unable to promise that synopsis only submissions will be considered.

They are unable to include musicals or adaptations and can’t consider film, television and radio scripts. It’s important that it was written for live performance. They would love to include plays that have been written specifically for young performers.

If you’ve got any questions shoot newwriting@stockportgarrick.co.uk an email.

How to apply: Alongside your script, please nclude a statemtn in 20 words what the play is fundamentally about. Make sure you also include a telephone number, just in case. They are happy for plays to be submitted anonymously (with a pseudonym) but this isn’t required.

Please send plays to newwriting@stockportgarrick.co.uk
