Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Red Planet Prize 2018
Description: The Red Planet Prize is run in collaboration between Red Planet Pictures (Dickensian, The Ark, Death in Paradise) and ITV Drama. It offers emerging talent the opportunity to create a new, original TV drama with a script commission and development opportunities from ITV.
What’s so great about it? If you’re looking to break into television, this is a priceless opportunity – and unusual in that it offers a chance to develop your own idea rather than write for an existing series. Even if you don’t win the prize, there’s still the opportunity to get quite a lot out of it. 10 finalists get to attend a pitching masterclass and write an excerpt of their idea, so these are rich opportunities to build your skills and network. The submission window is 1-9 February, so if you’d like to submit it’s a good plan to get writing!
