Near Neighbours is producing the 5th year of their International Women’s Day event ‘Tell Me A Story’. They are looking for pieces of creative writing by female artists based in Birmingham to be part of this exciting event! They are thrilled to be partnered again with Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and are taking direct inspiration from their ‘Women Power Protest’exhibition.
What they are looking for: pieces of writing that are inspired by ‘Women Power Protest’ and/or any of the three key themes of the exhibition; Dignity, Hope and Activism.
“The pieces can be something you have already written or a brand-new piece. We are keen to have some pieces directly inspired by the ‘Women Power Protest’ exhibition, and so would encourage artists to visit the free exhibition and tell us in your application what inspired you. Though this is not a pre-requisite for entering a piece, we will be looking for a balance of works inspired by the exhibition, or pre-existing works that artists have linked to the ‘Women Power Protest’ art works. - The pieces can be in any style; poetry/spoken word, monologue, short story, etc. however they cannot exceed 5 minutes in length when performed.
- They are looking for a variety of pieces that reflect a range of women’s experiences across Birmingham.
This is a paid opportunity to perform your work at the ‘Tell Me A Story’ event at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery on Friday 8thMarch 2019. If you are unable to attend the event but would still like to have your piece considered, please state this in your application. Artists will receive a flat fee of £75, inclusive of expenses.
