The Lyric Theatre Belfast is now taking submissions for its third annual New Playwrights’ Programme.
Aimed at new and emerging playwrights, this six month programme from May to November 2019 provides intensive, hands-on dramaturgical support for four writers. A showcase of the work developed through the programme will be presented in their Naughton Studio in November 2019.
Who can apply: applications are welcomed from new and emerging playwrights, who must be over the age of 18 and have had fewer than two professional productions of their work (this excludes professional rehearsed readings). They are looking for work that is fresh, original and inherently theatrical from writers with a unique voice. Scripts can be about any subject matter or written in any style.
You do not need to be resident in Northern Ireland to apply, but you must be willing and able to commit to attending meetings, workshops and readings at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast for the duration of the programme (travel to and from the Lyric is unfortunately not covered as part of the programme).
They welcome submissions from writers of all backgrounds, and would particularly encourage submissions from voices which are currently under-represented in Irish theatre.
