Writing for the Stage will empower budding playwrights and equip them with the skills to write for live performance.
Over the course of 5 weeks, the course will focus on sharpening a different playwriting tool – from crafting dialogue and constructing characters, to structuring your play and experimenting with dramatic form. Each session will involve a mixture of practical writing exercises, script sharing and scene study.
Writers will have the opportunity to share their own work within a friendly and supportive environment. At the end of each workshop, writers will be given a playwriting exercise or stimulus to respond to throughout the following week. By the end of the course, participants will have assembled their own collection of original scenes and short plays.
Who’s it for: no previous experience of writing for theatre or live performance is necessary; all you require is an interest in dramatic writing and a desire to see your work brought to life through performance.
This workshop is led by playwright and dramaturg Lee Anderson.
