Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: The Alfred Fagon Award open for entries
Description: The competition is open to any playwright of Caribbean or African descent, resident in the UK, for the best original, new stage play in English.
What’s so great about it? The Alfred Fagon Award is the leading award for black British playwrights. The prestigious ceremony takes place at the National Theatre and in the past, winning writers have received their Award for Best New Play of the Year from a sterling list of presenters including playwrights Mustapha Matura and Roy Williams, and broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald OBE. Not only is this an amazing way to get recognition for your writing, the winning writer also gets £6000. You have until 26 July to submit your work – good luck!
