Ok, so it may be only October, but with the nights getting longer and the air getting colder, we thought it was high time we announced #WrAP2020. If you thought January was all about broken resolutions and doom and gloom – think again! Here at London Playwrights we use the first month of the year to kick-start our writing and give ourselves a creative boost. Sharpen your pencils, #WrAP is back.
What is #WrAP?
#WrAP (Write a Play) is our annual January playwriting challenge and it’s back for the third year running. Throughout the month, we provide prompts, exercises, mini online workshops, and inspiration to support you in writing a whole draft of a play in just a month. All of this is sent directly to your inbox to challenge you and spur you on.
Since it began in 2018, over 300 of you have taken part in #WrAP – completing first drafts, a few scenes, or simply coming up with ideas that you’ve been able to work on throughout the year. Some of these ideas have already been developed into bigger things.
The feedback we’ve had has been overwhelming, with writers telling us that whether they finished their scripts or not, #WrAP gave their writing the boost they needed for the year ahead.
Join us for #WrAP2020
We’re currently beavering away to make #WrAP2020 bigger and better than ever, and we’ll be making more announcements about this over the coming weeks (so do keep your eye on our blog and follow us on Instagram @londonplaywrights & Twitter @LDNPlaywrights).
If you want to challenge yourself, get some inspiration and write with the support of a playwriting community, then join us for #WrAP2020.
It doesn’t matter if it’s your first play or your fiftieth, or if you have minimal spare time: all that matters is that you want to give it a go. After all, even if you only get a few scenes written, or a rough first draft, it’s still more than you had at the start of January. And it’s got to be better than signing up for an expensive gym membership, right?
How to sign up:
If you want to take part, you’ll need to be a London Playwrights’ member, which you can do for just £3.63 (and by doing so, you’ll have access to lots of member benefits, plus you’ll be helping to support the next generation of playwrights – find out more here).
Members can simply login to sign up to receive #WrAP2020 emails (we’ll also be sending out a reminder nearer the time!)
Please sign me up
Great! You’ll need to sign up as a member first and click the link on the members’ site to sign up to the WrAP2020 mailing list.
Thanks,
Kimberley
Is your group (including membrership) limited to playwrights in London or England? I am in the United States.
No, in fact we have (and welcome!) members from all over the world, especially in the States!
This sounds great. I’ve added this to my forum for new writers at WriteForTheStage. Perhaps we could offer slots at the next Studio Salford Development Week for readings of some of the plays developed through #WrAP2020?
Thanks Mike, that’s really helpful – and yes, we’d be keen to arrange something like this. My email address is londonplaywrightsblog@gmail.com if you wanted to chat further? Best, Kimberley
I’d like to join in this year’s #WrAP, but I am too dim to work out how. I am already a member. What do I do, please?
Hi Clare,
There is a link to sign up over on the members site (which I will also email to you, I can also send you any emails you have missed!).
Best wishes,
Kimberley
