Site-Specific Commission for InTRANSIT FESTIVAL, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

InTRANSIT is a festival of outdoor or site responsive art and performance set-up by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and focusing on new commissions and new collaborations.

Now in its eighth year, the festival celebrates the changing urban landscape, making use of public and private spaces throughout the borough. Helen Scarlett O’Neill and Harry Ross (Secret Cinema, London Contemporary Orchestra, Silent Opera, The Spectators’ Guild) have been commissioned to curate this year’s festival and work with participants to find appropriate space.  This is a call-out to artists and companies, from any discipline, who are passionate about working outside of conventional theatre and gallery settings.

They are looking to commission or support around twelve new outdoor or site responsive projects to be presented in Kensington and Chelsea in July this year.

They are looking for proposals related to the idea of “dwelling in unity”. Proposals could be on the themes of marriage, the home, utopian or dystopian communities, domestic situations, or exploring “to dwell on thoughts”, perhaps drawing on mass community/audience contribution.

Projects that already have, or could bring in, additional funding will be at an advantage. They are also keen to commission work which will have a life beyond its iteration in this festival. Between £1000-£5000 might be invested in an individual commission. Once work is commissioned, we will agree with applicants how much of the production cost could be funded by the Royal Borough.

InTRANSIT festival runs from the 18th – 27th of July 2014.

How to apply:  Please send expressions of interest and address any queries to intransit@rbkc.gov.uk Please include links to any previous work and outline any additional funding sources you might be able to draw on.

Expressions of interest will be shortlisted by 10th April. Artists will then be given 3 weeks to develop their idea further before the final selection on 1st May.

Deadline:  Monday 7 April 2014 at noon
