Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: EKP and Paines Plough: The Women’s Prize for Playwriting 2020
Description: The Women’s Prize for Playwriting is an invitation to those who identify as women in the UK and Ireland to create vivid, exciting, brave new work for the stage. The aim of the Prize is to celebrate and support women playwrights and to discover the best new work from writers at all levels of experience. We are interested in plays that rejoice in the depth and range of your imagination, that feast on dramatic possibility and are ambitious on all scales and subjects. The criteria of the prize has been designed to allow you to write exactly the play you want, unhampered by restrictions or limitations.
What’s so great about it? This prize is a fantastic opportunity for female playwrights who want to find support to write their play. The prize itself comprises of £12000 in respect of an exclusive option for Paines Plough and EKP to co-produce the winning script, plus the winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will have their plays published by Samuel French. If this sounds good to you, get your scripts plus a covering letter explaining where you are in the writing process to them by 2 March! Good luck.
