Opportunities – Pick of the Week: BBC Writersroom – open for comedy scripts on 23rd March 2020

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: BBC Writersroom – open for comedy scripts on 23rd March 2020

Description: The BBC Writersroom annual window for unsolicited comedy scripts will be open from 10am on Monday 23rd March 2020 and deactivate at 5pm on Monday 20th April 2020.

They see scripts as a calling card to show case a writer’s talent, ability, and sense of humour. They are looking for what the script tells us about the writer. They are especially looking for distinctive voices – and scripts that express those voices. They do not look for more of the same – they look for the writer’s ability to pull an audience into a world and hold them in it. Only submit to the Script Room when your script is ready, even if it means waiting for a later Script Room submission window.

What’s so great about it? We could all do with some light relief right now and as it looks like we’ll all be at home a lot more, now might be a good time to write that comedy you’ve been thinking about for a while. The submission window opens on 23rd for a chance to be selected to join the BBC Comedy Room writer development group for 2020/21.
