London Playwrights’ Co-founder and Director was recently interviewed by Russell Lucas for his 300 Thoughts for Theatremakers channel on Youtube. In the interview, Kimberley talks about London Playwrights – how it started, how it’s going, and what’s next! You can watch the interview here:
In this interview, nothing was said about the changes of ‘expression’. I mean, have theatres become “woke” ? Do we have to pay more attention about what we say? I was told off in a writers circle because I used the word ‘sexy’ to describe the way a female character was dressed but he character wanted to be sexy.
Also people tend to get confused between the character and the author’s feelings. Again I was criticized because my character was patronising. It was my character who was patronizing, not me! I feel this is the growing influence of the woke and the politicaly correct.
In one of my plays about inmates, I had to put the word f… sometimes because it is widely used in prisons. I was told to remove it, pending on the audience.
