Portfolio Films, an independent production company based in Central Stirling, is inviting applications from writers to collaborate on The Thumbling Administration — a fast-paced, satirical thumb puppet series. Initially comprising 90 short episodes (30–45 seconds each), the project blends scripted political satire with reactive sketches inspired by real-world events.
This opportunity is ideal for writers with sharp comedic instincts and a strong interest in current affairs across Scotland, the UK, and internationally. The tone is apolitical but provocative, with dialogue delivered in punchy, shareable bites by thumb-sized caricatures of public figures.
Writers should have:
- A demonstrable interest in satire, sketch comedy, or political commentary
- Experience writing short-form dialogue or script-based content
- Strong awareness of current affairs and trending topics
- Ability to write quickly and collaboratively, particularly for reactive content with a 36-hour turnaround
- A flexible attitude toward group script development in a workshop-style setting
Workshops and script sessions will take place in-person at POFI’s Stirling studio, where writers will collaborate directly with the producer and director.
What to Submit:
- A short biography (max 250 words)
- 1–2 samples of relevant writing (e.g. short scripts, comedy sketches, or satirical monologues)
- A brief cover note outlining your interest in the project and availability for in-person collaboration in Stirling
Eligibility:
- Open to writers aged 18+
- No upper age limit
- Applicants must be based in or able to travel to Central Scotland for workshops
- This opportunity is not limited to union members or represented writers
Payment:
This is a funded project. Writers selected for the initial batch of scripts will be offered paid freelance engagements, with rates aligned to short-form online production budgets. Further writing opportunities may arise as the series continues into a reactive weekly format.
