Northern Spirit Theatre Company is now open to submissions for “A Funny Thing Happened”, the comedy edition of its new writing night, happening on 28 September 2025.
From awkward first dates to weird family dinners, dodgy landlords, disastrous auditions, chaotic job interviews, or that one time you got mistaken for someone else, this night is all about the funny, the messy, and the unexpectedly brilliant.
We’re talking sharp scripts, comic monologues, sketch scenes, character pieces, and anything that makes us laugh (or cringe in a good way).
Think big heart, bold humour, and a bit of bite.
No fluff. Just fresh, funny writing brought to life.
We’re looking for short pieces (up to 10 mins) that bring funny, oddball monologues, sketchy scenes, character comedy, or theatrical absurdity. Whether it’s dry wit, dark humour, working-class banter, or full-on farce, if it’s funny, we’re listening.
