Play Club 2020 has seen three incredible winning plays so far, and we had a brilliant selection to choose from for our second window in response to Duncan Macmillan’s play Lungs, with writing from an eclectic range of voices. The Wait
by Teresa Espejo
Teresa graduated in Media and Filmmaking in Barcelona in 2011. She collaborated in several short films before training as a theatre director in 2016. Soon after that, she wrote and directed her first short piece. She has also directed three short plays for the Director’s Cut Showcase at the Southwark Playhouse. Some of her written work has been staged: a short monologue at the Bread Roses Theatre for the show I’m Sorry but…, and another short piece included in the first Bare E-ssentials streamed this May. She was part of the devised show It all Comes Back on stage March this year at the Arcola Theatre.
And that leaves us to reveal our third text for #PlayClub2020…
ear for eye by debbie tucker green
ear for eye by Olivier and BAFTA award-winning writer and director debbie tucker green is a dissection of racial injustice, oppression and prejudice, particularly in America and Britain. The piece interrogates whether progress has really been made at all through the lens of a variety of characters’ experiences and how they navigate, interact and the actions they take within the society they are living in. ear for eye premiered at the Royal Court Downstairs in 2018, and is one of the most relevant and important plays to read of recent theatre history; being both educational and provocative in its uncompromising investigative content.

Submissions
We challenge you to write a 10 page play (12 font size, please!) in direct response to what you’ve read.
Our submission window in response to ear for eye will be open from
Monday 29th June – Sunday 19th July
(So please don’t send us scripts before then)
We’ll accept submissions from LPW members only, so if you’re not one yet but are wanting to submit – what’re you waiting for? It costs less than a cup of coffee a month and you get exclusive access to workshops, events and projects from us!

How to sign up
Play submissions for this project are exclusively for our members (you can sign up for less than 4 quid though and you’ll be helping to support the next generation of playwrights if you do!)
You’re also more than welcome to just read the plays and join in some discussion with us about them on the members Facebook group! We’ll open up a discussion forum on there at the same time we open for submissions, so do feel free to just read along with us if you’d prefer.
