Opportunities – Pick of the Week: BBC TV Drama Writers’ Programme open for applications

Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.

This week’s pick: TV Drama Writers’ Programme open for applications

Description: The BBC’s annual Drama Writers’ Programme is now open for submissions. You’ll need to have at least one professional credit to apply (theatre counts!) The aim of the Programme is to give writers their first original television drama series or serial commission.

Why is it so great? As one of the more well known opportunities for drama writers, we thought we’d better give you the heads up that the submission window is now open. To apply, you’ll need to send in a script along with a pitch for an original drama series (which must be a different idea from your spec script). If you’re ready for this and have a polished script and a new idea – and a passion for writing for TV drama, this opportunity for extensive professional development is for you. You have until 20 July to apply.
