Commission: A new Christmas performance for young audiences
Call out for writers
We are seeking a writer to work with us to produce a new Christmas performance for young audiences aged 3-7 to be performed at Gala Durham studio and Bishop Auckland Town Hall.
Gala Durham is a beautiful, purpose-built building on the banks of the river Wear in the heart of this historic city. The studio is situated on the second floor with a capacity of 100.
Bishop Auckland Town Hall is situated in the centre of Bishop Auckland. A striking 19th century, French Gothic style listed building, it contains a library, gallery, café and performance space with a capacity of 180.
We are looking to create a new production which is:
- Accessible, entertaining and engaging for 3-7 year olds
- Festive
- Relevant to our County Durham audience
- Interactive
- High quality and ambitious
We would like our Christmas show to contain live music, up to 3 professional performers and a simple beautiful set.
We expect the show to have a running time of approximately 1 hour and have a clear marketing message for schools and families.

We are looking for proposals from writers who have created at least one professional production for young people and are based in the UK. We are particularly keen to hear from those living in North East England.
