A weekend workshop for playwrights, theatre directors and actors. The relationship between writer, director and cast is a vital one in the development of a new play. This workshop will explore key principles of those relationships, and how to manage them at each stage of a new play’s development. Led by Tom Latter, Artistic Director of Sheer Drop Theatre and Literary Coordinator at Theatre503.
In this workshop you will learn:
New techniques to analyse and understand dramatic writing
Exercises to develop ideas and produce new material
the principles of collaboration between writer, director and cast
an insight into how a literary department works with writers and directors
The workshop is perfect for playwrights and directors at an early stage of their careers and actors at any stage interested in gaining more experience of developing new plays. Places are limited to 6 playwrights, 6 directors, and 12 to 18 actors. On the second day, playwrights will be paired with directors, giving them a chance to work together with up to 3 actors on a piece of their own.
