With over 350 hours of in-house output a year, BBC Drama Production is making some of the most original, diverse and highly acclaimed television. These range from continuing drama such as Casualty, EastEnders, Holby City, and Doctors to series and serials such as Silent Witness, Luther and Our Girl to name just a few!
BBC is currently seeking a Script Editor to join their Continuing Drama Series department on a fixed term contract based in Birmingham. The Script Editor reports to the Series Producer in the first instance, and works in close conjunction with the Producers to provide production with successful and effective scripts for this busy show.
Role Responsibility: You will advise on all script related matters associated with the Production, generating creative ideas and story ideas of the highest standards, consistent with the programme.
Throughout the production, you will be responsible for representing the interests of the writer to the production team and ensuring that the author consents to major script changes and to convey the writers point of view in his/her absence. You will also ensure the consistent treatment of established characters and continuity within the story line and episodes.
The Ideal Candidate: Drama production can involve long and unpredictable work patterns and pressure to meet tight schedules so you will need to have a flexible approach to your working day. There must be no restriction on the ability to travel within the UK or abroad subject to the BBC’s Conditions of Service, Code of Practice and Equal Opportunities policies.
You will also have relevant experience and script-editing experience along with a knowledge of new writers/talent etc. You’ll also have an understanding of copyright law, Writers Guild agreements, contracts and the legal implications of the production process.
