Adapting Annie’s Plays For Audio

Open your ears to the secrets of audio production. Enter the world of audio drama, where you can be transported from outer space to inner London in an instant. Annie’s Plays offer a perfect starting point for audio exploration.
“We’re looking for people who are interested in making things in sound. You might be an experienced writer, performer, musician or sound designer, or you might just be keen to try out your skills in any of those fields.”
Workshop outline
This workshop will introduce you to classic audio drama techniques of writing, performance and production. Working in small teams you will choose your script, adapt it for radio, act in it, record it, produce and mix the sound effects and edit it so that it can posted online. There will not be time to do complex editing.
Jeremy Mortimer is an Independent producer working largely in radio drama and features, but also developing sound ideas for other media. He also works as a trainer and consultant, and has taught radio production at the University of Essex and writing for radio at the University of Bath and the University of the Arts London. He has taught on the BA Hons Acting course at University of Essex (East 15). In his career at the BBC he produced a huge number of programmes for Radio 4 and Radio 3. Recent broadcasts include The History of Titus Groan, James Joyce’s Ulysses, Kafka the Musical, The Real George Orwell. He has produced programmes for BBC television and has written and directed for the stage. Awards include Sony Awards for Best Drama Production, Prix Italia, Prix Europa, BBC Audio Drama Awards.
Emma Hearn is a producer, director and production manager, with over 15 years experience of working in drama both in the theatre and audio. At BBC Audio Drama, London, Emma worked as part of the production team on dramas including: Ulysses, The Tempest, The Recruiting Officer, Our Country’s Good, Marnie, Pink Boy, Blue Girl and From Fact to Fiction. She has produced and directed dramas for Wireless Theatre and for Cast Iron Radio, Emma works as an Assistant Producer on BBC dramas including: Bretton Woods, His Master’s Voice and The Raft of the Medusa. Emma is also working with leading UK theatres on new audio drama projects.
