The Incubator is the egg’s pioneering new work programme, developing world-class theatre for young audiences. Funded by The Leverhulme Trust and The Esmée Fairbairn Foundation between 2014 – 2017, The Incubator programme selects artists and theatre companies from across the British Isles and provide optimal conditions for them to experiment in and create new plays.
The aim of the programme is to encourage more talented artists to write and make for young audiences and ensure this work is the best it can be.

Appointed artists or companies will access funding (cash and in kind) to cover: a bursary direct to the scholar, travel, accommodation, access to training, research and development time and human resources, creative team for the R&D.
What they want to support: They are accepting applications from non-venue based artists or theatre companies with an idea for one of the following works:
- An adaptation of a well-known, early years picture / story book
- An innovative and accessible take on a classic secondary school set text
- A new work for under 8’s with an international partner
