Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Freshly Scratched at the Battersea Arts Centre
Description: Freshly Scratched gives emerging artists the opportunity to present 10 minutes of a work in development to an audience, with the goal of supporting work that ‘pushes the boundary of the art form.’
So, what’s so great about it? One of the most exciting developments in contemporary playwriting is the freedom writers have felt to cross-fertilize with other art forms, and Battersea Arts Centre are keen to support experimental, risk taking work. If you’ve got an unconventional idea, this is an amazing opportunity to R&D with an amazing venue, and get immediate feedback on developing your piece. The deadline for submissions is 9 September – and remember that you’ll need to be prepared to stage the work yourself, not just submit a script. (If you need pointers on this, check out Kimberley Andrews’s series on How To Produce Your Own Work.)
