Applications open for the Autumn 2015 writing workshops at the Jack Studio Theatre

Playwrights are invited to apply for a place on the 2015 Autumn season of writing workshops based at the Jack Studio Theatre. Workshops are led by the theatre’s Literary Manager and playwright, David Bottomley.

The Jack Writers’ Workshop is a dynamic hub for emerging contemporary theatre writing in South London. The group will meet at the Jack Studio Theatre in Brockley on Monday evenings, starting from 2nd November 2015 (7.30pm – 9.30pm).

The Workshop is designed to explore many elements of playwriting. Together we shall be expanding skills and understanding of writing in a friendly group environment. The sessions will cover: pitching a synopsis, creating three-dimensional characters, conflict, dialogue, status, structure and plotting through writing exercises, workshopping, discussions, readings and group feedback. These tools can then be applied to scripts in progress, or to support writers in the creation of a short ten-minute play.

We are seeking writers with a strong commitment to attend every session in order to sustain their own development.

The season is divided into eight sessions and gives you the opportunity to submit a ten minute script (or scene extract) from the workshop for a rehearsed reading at the Jack Studio Theatre. Selected scripts from the workshop will be premiered at a special one-off performance in Spring 2015.
