Red Dragonfly New Writing Competition 2016 (Asian writers, £1000 prize)

Red Dragonfly Productions and Grist to the Mill Productions are running a new playwriting competition that is open to new and budding playwrights from East Asian, South Asian and South East Asian Communities (age 18+).

What to submit: In their own words:

“We are looking for a thirty minute stage play, the subject of which can be anything you want – from something contemporary to more traditional folk and fairy tales  – as long as it is family friendly – and we mean the whole family not just small children.   The play should be written for a cast of up to four actors only – although they can double up on characters if you want – and workable with a minimal set, however do not let this restrict your imagination – it’s amazing what can be accomplished on a stage with very little.”

What you get: After reviewing the submissions, they will be inviting up to ten successful applicants to a free one day workshop – travel will be provided* – and from that workshop three will be selected to have their plays produced and performed in the festival.

(*depending on applicants’ bases).

There will be a £1000 fee paid to each writer whose play is performed at the festival.

How to apply:  If you want to be considered then in the first instance please submit a full description of your idea – no longer than one A4 page, but make sure your story has a beginning, middle and an end – along with your name, age, ethnicity and any access requirements.

Writers can submit their pitch/idea/story to submissions@gristtheatre.co.uk. There is no entry fee.

Deadline: 1 October 2016
