Arvon Grants available for writing courses

Arvon is a UK-based organisation which commercially runs creative writing courses and retreats. However, if you’re a writer who can’t afford the fees but feels their programmes could be useful, you can check out their grants initiative.

Arvon told us, ‘Grants are for writers who are unable to afford our full course fees and are not awarded on the basis of writing ability but on your desire to write.’

Individuals can apply for any amount, right up to the full course fee. Arvon also stated, ‘Last year we were able to help more than 90% of all writers who applied.’

Two grants are offered – ‘Low Income Grants’ and ‘Teachers Grants’. For the latter you’ll need to provide proof that you’re a practising teacher of English at a UK state primary school, secondary school or further education college.

Arvon’s programmes aim to cover all levels of experience, from beginners to emerging and published writers and they’re tutored by industry figures including Sinead Morrissey, Simon Armitage, Rebecca Lenkiewicz and Willy Russell.

If you’re interested in applying for an Arvon grant, visit their official website.
