Is structuring a play really as daunting as it’s made out to be? Is the five act structure the enemy of the free-thinking playwright? Should we map out the structure of a play before writing it?
All too often, we see structure as something we need to impose on our work – a mechanical challenge that threatens to stifle our creativity. But what if we said structure is simply already there, in even the most basic of stories? They key to unlocking it is identifying the seeds that are already present, and bringing these out to make sure you tell the very best version of your story.
Course structure
In this half day workshop, you will get grips with how structure works. Through practical creative exercises and group discussion you will unravel the basis of structure and discover how it can help you as a playwright. You’ll also have the chance to structure your own idea and to gain valuable feedback from the group.
Who This Workshop is For
This workshop is designed for early career writers who are currently working on an idea but want to know more about developing the structure of their piece.
You’ll need to bring in a one page outline of your idea in order to participate in the exercises. More details will be sent in advance of the workshop (although if you want additional details before booking, you can contact workshops@londonplaywrightsblog.com).
