Each week we look through our pile of writing opportunities to pick out one we think is particularly worth your time. It could be an innovative brief, great prize money, a high-profile company, or just plain fun.
This week’s pick: Fizzy Sherbet seeking short plays by women writers
Description: On 24 January 2017, Fizzy Sherbet will be hosting an evening of new writing at the Hackney Attic, and is inviting women writers to submit short scripts that will be performed as rehearsed readings.
So, what’s so great about it? Full disclosure: we know two of the three minds behind Fizzy Sherbet, and they’re great artists and fantastic people. Tamara von Werthern (a playwright who also works at Nick Hern Books) has written for this blog, and Director Lily McLeish has collaborated frequently with Katie Mitchell as well as creating her own groundbreaking work. We’re big fans of initiatives that help to close the gender gap in theatre, and this is a great example of emerging artists self-producing and taking matters into their own hands! If you’d like to get involved, the deadline to send them a script is 14 December.

Thanks for the shout-out! We’ve been getting lots of lovely scripts through on the back of this – very excited – 24th January is shaping up to be a great night celebrating new writing. Keep ’em coming, girls!
