6FootStories call for writers with ideas-in-progress

The following call for submissions appeared on the UK Playwriting Facebook Group.  We’re including it here in its original format rather than our normal breakdown so you can get a feel of what they’re going for:

Hi guys,

I am the co-artistic director of 6FootStories. We are a relatively new company, so you are forgiven if you haven’t heard of us. We’re a “new writing” company, in that we write new stuff, but it has a very particular flavour. We like strange storytelling, tales set in weird places, weird worlds. Stories that throw ordinary people into extraordinary circumstances. Our last show, Soften the Grey, toured to fringe festivals this summer and was all about a man who dies and ends up in a strange Citizens’ Advice Bureau for the deceased and has to work out which afterlife he wants. So that’s the kind of thing we like. Peculiar stories that address the big ideas like FAITH and DEATH.

Anyway, we’ve got a show coming up in Guildford in November – SHATTERED FRAGMENTS. This is our signature night of new work. We present 6 brand new pieces, stories at the beginning of their lives, and invite the audience for as much feedback as they can give us. Our two full-length shows were first presented as shorts at Shattered Fragments, so it is a central part of our process.

So far, everything we’ve produced has been written by myself and Jake Hassam, our other co-artistic director. However, this time we want to open the fold to other writers and theatre-makers. Hence why I’m posting on here. If you have a story you’d like to try out in a 10-15 minute slot at Shattered Fragments then please get in touch. The shows are on 15th & 16th November at the lovely Mill Studio at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. If it’s just a bit of script that you’ve got that’s fine, and likewise so is a more fully-formed piece if you’ve got a company yourselves. The two conditions for presenting something are:

1. It is not a finished story – it is something that could be expanded into a larger piece.
2. It fits with our weird and wonderful style. So it needs to bend the rules slightly, it needs to operate slightly outside the parameters of our own boring lives. If you’re not sure, just get in touch anyway.

So, I hope I haven’t gone on for too long; I wanted to give as full a picture as possible. If you want to get in touch, please email info@6footstories.co.uk, and if you want more information please go to our brand new website, www.6footstories.co.uk.

Thanks a lot,

Nigel
