Throughout 2014, Rich Mix is looking for new/emerging performers and companies to come and tell their stories of city life, to present just some of these small tales that contribute to the rich tapestry of the big city.
Rich Mix is located in the heart of East London, one of the most diverse and exciting parts of this particular city. Small Story/Big City is seeking submissions for theatre and performance work that encapsulates the smallness and the bigness of city life. These showcases will happen once a month, mainly in their studio theatre, though they are happy to receive submissions that respond to other spaces within the Rich Mix building and working across multiple art-forms.
Performances will take place once a month, on either a Friday or Saturday evening, starting February 2014.
What to submit: The application form (downloadable on their website) requires the following information:
- Brief description of the piece (400 words)
- Practical details (staging, length of piece, etc)
- Details of relevant experience (300 words)
- Description of your artistic practice (300 words)
- Details of marketing support
- Why have you applied? (250 words)
- Up to 3 images in support of your application
How to apply: The application form can be downloaded from their website and sent it to programming@richmix.org.uk with ‘Stories of London – Submission’ in the subject line. (Note: Video applications are also accepted – videos should be uploaded to youtube, and the link submitted by email as above.)
Eligibility: In order for your work to be considered, you must have been working in live performance for 4 years or less. Work must be no longer than 90 minutes (excluding interval), however we will consider shorter works to be presented as part of a double or triple bill. Those with work in development or new writing are also encouraged to apply – we are happy to hear from those with work at the very early stages of development, as well as those with completed works.
