Playwriting Workshops with John Burgess in Burgundy, France

John Burgess, an experienced dramaturge, will be leading a 3 day workshop at L’Espace in Burgundy, Northern France. The workshop will consist of expert guidance and tuition. A further 3 days will then be given over to writing and work-shopping your own work, should you wish to take part.

About John Burgess: “John Burgess is a freelance director and lives in London. He worked for fourteen years at the National Theatre where he directed works from the classical, romantic and modern repertoires as well as many new plays. He helped found the NT Studio in 1984 and was the National Theatre’s Head of New Writing 1989-94. He has directed in the UK, Switzerland, Scandinavia and North America and is the author of The Faber Pocket Guide to Greek and Roman Drama.”

The week spent at  L’espace will consist of:

Day 1: Welcome dinner and introductions.

Days 2,3,4: Workshop with John Burgess 10am-12pm and 4pm-6pm, with time for reading and ‘homework’. The three days will cover basic building blocks; words of one syllable, rhythm, exits and entrances, building a page, surprise, stichomythia, images, actions, silence.

Days 5 & 6: Free for personal writing.

Day 7: Departure.

All meals, drinks and station pick-up included.

Who’s it for? This course is for emerging and experienced writers with a committed interest in dramatic and performance text. A maximum of 6 participants will be able to take part.

Course Dates: 5-11 October 2017 and 9-14 November 2017
