The 3rd edition of the Arab Women Artists Now (AWAN) Festival will take place between 10-12 March 2017. They are looking for contemporary music, dance, storytelling, poetry, and theatre performances as well as multimedia performance and films.
For the last three years, AWAN has presented a multidisciplinary festival in London, which aims to showcase the array of artistic works emerging from contemporary Arab women artists in the UK and Europe.
In their own words:
“The festival provides an opportunity for them to share their work with new audiences and grow their professional networks. This is particularly important at a time when the Arab world is viewed primarily as a war zone and Arab women artists struggle to get their work acknowledged.”
Eligibility: The group/main artist should be entirely female, of Arab origin and currently live in the UK or in a EU member state.
What to submit:
- The works should be of high artistic quality and be made/performed by emerging and mid-career artists.
- Performances can be short works to be presented as part of a mixed programme or they can be an excerpt from a full length production.
- The work should be suitable for community and/or non-traditional venues.
- Theatre performances should be in English or suitable for subtitling. Those not in English should be sent with an English translation/summary.
