Join Exeter Northcott as a resident playwright at the Barnfield Theatre for a week at the end of July 2024!
One selected writer will be given a week’s paid writing time, a desk to write from at the Barnfield Theatre, and dramaturgical 1:1s with members of their artistic team.
In addition to the writing fee, they will also contribute to any travel expenses, provide a daily food stipend, and cover accommodation if the writer selected is more than an hour’s commute from Exeter. Writers will have access to staff discounts across their bars, cafés and box office.
Writers are invited to use this time however they like, with no pressure on output. They can work on a new idea, continue developing something they are already working on, chat to the Northcott’s artistic team about the piece, research areas of interest, use the time to read or watch other work – whatever they like!
Any writers applying must be South-West based, and whilst the dates of the residency are set, Exeter Northcott understands that artists may have other commitments on such a tight turnaround, and so are open to their time in the building being flexible.

FEE
- £800.00 plus travel expenses, food stipend and accommodation if required.

- Monday 1st July – Friday 5th July: shortlisting
- Monday 8th July: writers updated on their application progress
- Week commencing Monday 15th July: selected writer meets with a member of the artistic team to discuss plans for their residency
- Monday 22nd July – Friday 26th July: residency
