Box of Tricks Theatre Company have opened a new submission window for Northern playwrights for Cohort 4 of their ever-popular Pen Pals writer exchange programme.
Six pairs of playwrights will be matched to connect, share ideas and develop their craft. During a six month exchange beginning in February 2022, each Pen Pal will develop a full-length play – sharing thoughts and ideas along the way – and receive feedback from the Box of Tricks team.
If you’d like to be considered, please submit the following:
- A short example of your playwriting (up to 30 pages). This can be a short play or an extract from a longer piece.
- An indication of your level of writing experience. Please don’t worry if you don’t have a traditional CV – just indicate what you have done to date.
- A short statement expressing what inspires you to write for theatre, why you’d like to be a Pen Pal and what you’d hope to gain from the experience. Please also indicate your connection to the North of England.
- A brief pitch/treatment/outline of the piece you’d like to develop with your Pen Pal. If you’ve already started writing the script, feel free to include a short extract.
Writers must be members of Box of Tricks’ PlayMakers Network (https://www.facebook.com/groups/boxoftricksplaymakers) and either live in, or be originally from, the North of England.
Send expressions of interest to playmakers@boxoftrickstheatre.co.uk (with ‘Pen Pals’ in the subject line) by midday on Monday 20 December.
