Brockley Jack seeking full length plays for Write Now 6 (for playwrights with a connection to SE London)

The Brockley Jack Theatre is currently accepting submissions for Write Now 6.  The Write Now Festival began at the Jack in 2010, and has run for five successive years.

Under the artistic direction of Kate Bannister, the Write Now  festival is an integral and essential part of the Jack Studio Theatre’s yearly programme, and which each year looks to find, develop and produce the most exciting, diverse and significant work of new and emerging writers who have a connection to the south east of London.

Eligibility:  Playwrights should have a strong connection with south east London, for instance if you currently live, work or study here, or if were you born and brought up in the area. The play does not have to be set in south east London.

What to submit:  The play must be the writer’s original work, unpublished and unperformed at a public theatre.  Additionally:

  • Plays should be full length.

  •  A one page synopsis of the play must be included with the application.
  • Please ensure that your script is bound or stapled with pages numbered.
  • All writers must also submit the application form (which can be downloaded from the festival website).

Note:  IdeasTap is running a ‘Synopsis Surgery’ with Literary Manager David Bottomley on 20 November 2014, that you can sign up for on their website.

What you get:  One selected play will be given a full production at the Jack Studio Theatre in May 2015. Two further plays will be given a week’s workshop time and three staged readings during the Festival. In addition each of the 3 winning writers is allocated development time with a director and dramaturg to examine and explore their play further; financial support to attend rehearsals and performance; and career development and advice.

How to apply:  You must submit one hard copy of your play with your application form, and a copy of your play and application form should also be emailed to admin@brockleyjack.co.uk
