Established in 2020, Haywire Theatre is a company devoted to the extraordinary ordinary. We are committed to producing theatre that encapsulates the human, the relatable and the understandable behaviours that form individual experience. One example of this can be seen in our ongoing community outreach project in Flintshire, North Wales, to explore and discuss lived experience of food poverty. Beginning with an intensive research and workshop period, we are now looking to move forward into a Writers’ Room that will use this wealth of shared experiences to create a performance script. We aim to eventually produce a performance that represents the communities we work so closely with, and bring their stories to the Flintshire stage.
We are looking for 3 welsh community writers to form part of a writer’s room that will culminate in the production of a full-length script, which we will then go on to produce next year. The writers room will be made up of a combination of professional and community writers, coming together to transform research material into a full-length play. Due to the nature of this work being so deeply rooted in the experience of local communities, we’re really keen to connect with creatives who live in or have connections to the Flintshire area.
The writers room would run from Tuesday through to Saturday with community writers asked to commit to a minimum of 10 hours a week.. We’re committed to paying all artists involved fairly for their time, therefore both professional and community writers will receive the same rate, just adjusted in accordance to the differing time commitments. Therefore the fee for Community writers would be £150 a week.
All writers must be able to easily travel to Flintshire for the sessions. Unfortunately this role is not suitable for remote-working therefore attendance in person is essential. Fluency or knowledge of the welsh language is desirable but not essential.
