Covert Firmament: An Introduction to Screenwriting for Short Film

Join us for a comprehensive introduction to writing for short films. Led by Dan Horrigan, this course will see you generate ideas, find the approach that best suits your story, and be primed for your best script.

Event Description

Writing the Short Film Accelerator is the result of ten years of writing and making award-winning short films, collaborating with independent artists at Foliage Films and Covert Firmament, and judging for leading festivals across the UK and USA.

Session 1: Monday 7th July, 7-8.30pm Preparing the ground and unpacking the emotional range.

Session 2: Wednesday, 9th July, 7-8.30pm Structuring your screenplay.

Session 3: Sunday, 13th July, 10am-11.30am Generating scenes.

Session 4: Monday, 14th July, 7-8.30pm Creating Characters.

Session 5: Wednesday, 16th July, 7-8.30pm, writing dialogue.

Session 6: Sunday, 20th July, 10 a.m.-11.30 Rewriting and bringing it all together.

Over two weeks you will immerse yourself in the best of short film writing and making and leave with the ideas you need as well as the tools to make the best possible start – and beyond.

Buckle up and get ready to journey as we explore this wonderful form. An excellent way to start filmmaking. The course is suitable for screenwriters and writer-directors, as well as those looking to pivot from other forms of writing (prose, poetry, plays).
