Film Generator is a new two-stage training programme from Film Hub North that seeks to support the most exciting early-stage writers and directors in the North to experiment, find their voice, and develop as storytellers.
Stage 1 is for writers. Film Hub North looking for ideas that use the limitations of micro budget shorts to craft something distinctive, evocative, and compelling. Writers will apply with an idea which – if selected – will receive development support from the Film Hub North team to shape it into a winning short script.
At the application stage we’re looking for a couple of paragraphs that outline the idea. Writers should consider the following guidelines:
- max 10 pages
- max 3 characters
- max 2 locations
- ideally 4-7 minutes long
- ideally features characters that could be played by different genders/ages/ethnicities.
Ideas should be innovative, interesting, and have a unique perspective. The best ideas will have something to say and a distinctive way of saying it. Four projects are expected to be selected for development in this stage.
This opportunity is open to anyone based in the North of England who is looking to start a career writing for film, particularly from traditionally underrepresented voices.
