The Hampstead Theatre’s annual submission window is now open.
Hampstead Theatre is dedicated to finding brilliant new plays and writers of exceptional promise. We strive to produce works that present new perspectives and engage with the world we live in today.
Hampstead Theatre is looking for original plays and promising writers. They want to read bold stories, writing that takes risks and plays that speak to a modern audience. If the voice is refreshing, or if the play is delivered with power, rigour or wit, they want to read it.
Before you submit a script, they encourage you to familiarise yourself with their current work; come and see the plays being produced at ther Main Stage and Downstairs spaces, look at their archive and check out their shop. This should give you a better idea of what they are looking for, what we find exciting and what our audiences are engaging with.
How to submit: Please send your scripts in PDF format by email to scripts@hampsteadtheatre.com and include in your email a synopsis and short covering note telling them about you and why your play is right for Hampstead.
Please note, they are unable to receive or read unsolicited scripts that are:
*Sent by post
*Sent outside of the submission period (the submission period is 1 July – 31 December each year)
*Less than 50 Pages
*Not a PDF
*Adaptations
*Have been previously produced
*From writers outside of the UK
*Musicals
*That have previously been submitted to the Hampstead
They also are unable to read more than one script from a writer at a time.
What happens next: When we receive your play you will receive an acknowledgement email in receipt of your script. We then give ourselves a four month window in which to read your play as we receive many submissions and it can take some time to get to them all.
If we have enjoyed your play and would like to develop a relationship with you as a writer, you will hear from us in the four month window.
If four months passes and you haven’t heard from us then unfortunately your submission has been unsuccessful on this occasion.
Deadline: 31 December 2015
