The Jerwood/Arvon Mentoring Scheme is open for applications from writers who attended an Arvon course in 2013. If this applies to you, read on…
This unique opportunity offers nine writers the chance to be guided for one year by a successful and established writer. Three writers will be selected in each of the genres of Poetry, Fiction and Playwriting. The scheme is designed for those interested in developing both their writing and professional practice, who have a clear idea of what they would like to achieve over a year long period.
Mentoring
Arvon is delighted to announce that the mentors for the 2014 programme are Poet Clare Pollard, Fiction writer Jenn Ashworth and Playwright David Eldridge. The mentors will take on 3 writers each in their category, supporting and guiding them in their work over the course of the year, from a week of intensive workshops, to preparing their work for publication in a group anthology.
Writing time
In addition to being mentored, the beginning and end of the year are each marked by a week away at The Hurst, the newly refurbished John Osborne Arvon Centre in Shropshire. Beginning with a tutored Masterclass Week in March 2014 with the three mentors, the year concludes with a Retreat Week, without the mentors in February 2015. These weeks will provide the scheme’s mentees with the time and space to focus on their writing, away from their everyday lives.
Professional development
Furthermore, throughout the year the mentees will be given a chance take part in a new media writing project with digital literature think-tank if:book, and advice sessions with literary agent Simon Trewin.
The nine writers’ development over the year will culminate in an anthology of works, in print and e-book format, and a book launch at the Free Word Centre in London.
How to apply: Apply through the website.
