Kick the Dirt seeking female writer/ devising artist

Kick the Dirt are seeking a female writer / devising artist to develop text for a new show about a professional bull rider.

The project: Professional Bull Riding (PBR) is often called “the most dangerous sport on earth”. It’s an almost exclusively male world, with hyper-masculine aesthetics and values.

Bulls***looks at what happens when a woman enters the arena.

The show is a development of a well-received early stage sharing which was offered performance dates on the basis of the material shown.

The company: Kick the Dirt is Theatre Royal supported artist Nicole Redfern, working in collaboration with a number of associate creatives. We are an emerging company, interested in making work which comes from the gut – live, physical, honest and political.

The writer: “We are seeking a female writer comfortable developing text within a collaborative devising process. We are particularly interested in playing with form, physicality, sound and projection, and exploring non-traditional use of text. Flexibility of style is therefore a must. We are also interested to hear from performer-writers. “

Kick the Dirt are committed to casting and working diversely. Applications from artists of all backgrounds are welcomed.

Rehearsal schedule:  proposed dates: 22nd October – 4th November 2018, and 10th – 15th December (including shows). All rehearsals will be in Plymouth.

Shows: 13th – 15th December, The Lab, Theatre Royal Plymouth.

Fee: **Please note that funding is currently unconfirmed**.

“We are currently seeking EOI’s in order to finalise the creative team for the funding bid. If this is successful, the fee for the work will meet Equity/ITC recommended rates for a devising artist (£471 per week), and include paid prep time.”

How to apply: Please send a short writing sample, and let them know what interests you about the project and your previous experience of writing / devising to kickthedirttheatre@gmail.com

Deadline: 15 June 2018
